Nottingham is a great place to visit for a city break, with plenty of shops, restaurants and a lively nightlife. If you’re wondering where to stay in Nottingham, this article should help.

I’ve lived here most of my life and even though I do live here, I’ve stayed at a number of the hotels in the city.

The city is perfect whether your visiting on your own, as a couple or with the family. No matter who you’re travelling with, don’t forget to take the obligatory photo at the Robin Hood statue.

There are many great choices when it comes to where you can stay, from budget friendly prices to high end luxury stays.

I’ve put a a list together of the best hotels in Nottingham to help you plan your perfect getaway to this vibrant city.

Quick Verdict: Best Hotels in Nottingham

Hart’s Hotel and Kitchen – Best for location with a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the centre.

Colwick Hall – Best for History and escape from city centre

Hilton Hotel – Best hotel for value for money and location.

Hart’s Hotel will always have a special place in our hearts as its where we got married. It’s a hotel that we’ve stayed at a couple of times now and every time its been great.

One of the things I love about Hart’s is that its not a big hotel. With 32 rooms, its a decent size but doesn’t ever feel overcrowded. You even have access to their private garden, perfect to enjoy a morning coffee in or a evening drink under the stars.

The location of Harts Hotel is perfect, its roughly a 5 minute walk from the city centre.

Your far enough from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to get back to after a night out.

Harts Hotel is known to be a little luxurious but its reasonable priced and its not pretentious or overly stuffy.

Attached to the hotel is the restaurant, which serves modern British food and is refined and tastes great.

I used to visit the restaurant often when it was bigger, however around COVID time they did reduce the size and closed the bigger restaurant next door. They do an excellent afternoon tea.

A great thing about Harts Hotel is that they offer a number of packages from weekend getaways, Sunday snooze and even special occasion packages.

They do also have a free parking available if your coming by car.

If you’re after luxury with world-class food then you cannot beat Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms. This one is unique as its an entire experience and one that shouldn’t be missed.

Now you can come here just for food, I say just for food but its incredible food.

They do however also have rooms that you can book. There are only 8 rooms, so perfect for a romantic night away with a loved one.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times but in 2024 we stayed a night here and it was perfect.

I wont go into too much detail on the food as I’ll cover that in my best restaurants in Nottingham article. I will however say that its some of the best food I’ve ever had. The focus is on seasonal ingredients, simple dishes with bold flavours.

Each of the rooms are decent sized with large king sized beds, our room had a 4 poster bed and even a living room area so I could relax and watch TV whilst Rach finished getting ready.

An amazing touch is the snacks. Most hotels have a mini fridge but here at Sat Bains you get a selection of chocolate bars and crisps, all of which are completely free.

One of the highlights for me is that you can wonder around the grounds in the evening, talking to the friendly staff as they prepare for dinner service.

We sat in a little outdoor seating area by a wood fire, whilst having a couple of cocktails.

You get breakfast included, and this was a real treat. It is one of the nicest breakfasts I’ve had and would go again just for the fresh bread and butter!

Location wise it is outside of the city centre on Lenton Lane. If you was coming from the centre then you would need to get a taxi or drive.

You probably wouldn’t go into the city centre for drinks if you was staying here. To be honest though, why would you?

I cannot stress enough how amazing Sat Bains Restaurant with rooms is. If you’re looking for a romantic night away to celebrate a loved ones birthday or anniversary, you wont be disappointed.

3) Colwick Hall Hotel

If you’re looking for a hotel with some character then Colwick Hall is perfect. It looks like its come straight out of a period drama, it certainly has that wow factor as your drive up to it.

This Georgian mansion used to be Lord Byron’s family home back in 1362, it sits on 60 acres of parkland.

We’ve been to Colwick Hall a number of times, attending a couple of weddings and even enjoying a Lion, the witch and wardrobe Christmas party here one year.

The rooms themselves provide you with all of the modern comforts you’d want but keep that historical feeling. Each room even has its own quirks to remind you of the buildings past.

There are a range of room types for those looking for a couples getaway, or rooms that are more suitable for families.

The biggest drawback to Colwick Hall is that it is a little way out of the city centre, around 10 minutes by car.

You could easily get to the city centre and back again for an evening if you wanted to.

The hotel is right in the middle of the Lace Market, which is perfect for restaurants and some decent bars. Its also perfect for those going to the Motorpoint arena for a show.

The Georgian building has plenty of character with 51 rooms that each of their own individual style.

You can even take a virtual tour of the hotel, but not the rooms which is a bit of a shame.

Each of the rooms looks great though, I really liked the Superior Suite. It had a free standing bath, which is something I particularly love!

All of the rooms have a decent minibar as well as stylish touches, you can tell they’ve put thought into the details.

Downstairs there is a pub, which is ideal if you want an evening drink. Plenty of local ales and craft beers to test.

You are local to many great bars though. Penny Lane is a unique pub with arcade machines, pitch and piano is unique as its a church converted into a bar. These are just two that are easily within walking distance.

Food is decent with a fresh breakfast with plenty of choice. If you’re planning on staying over the weekend you might even want to give their Sunday lunch a go.

If you’re looking for places to stay in Nottingham centre then the Hilton is ideal. Its located on Milton street, right next to the Victoria shopping centre. Perfect if you’re in town and have a bit of time for shopping.

Its also ideally located for restaurants, bars and transport links such as buses and taxis.

Ideal if you plan to take a trip to attractions such as Wollaton Hall.

There is a bar and restaurant inside the hotel, both are laid back. The hotel is like most Hilton’s. Ideally for solo travellers, business travel, couples and families.

Not that you would believe it because of its location but the hotel even has an indoor pool.

I stayed at the Hilton a few years ago and I don’t think its changed much since then.

The rooms are nice and clean, everything you need from a hotel. I would say its good value for money.

6) Crowne Plaza Nottingham by IHG

I always find that hotels by IHG are usually decent, clean, decent food and not over priced.

The Crowne Plaza is on Wollaton Street, this is a good budget hotel in Nottingham City.

You’re close to everything but since your a few streets away from the main hustle and bustle area, you can still get some decent sleep.

The rooms themself are nice, they have everything you need. Comfy bed, decent workspace area and a bathroom with some nice smelling bodywash and shampoo.

Like the Hilton, its certainly set up for business travellers as they’ve got 17 meeting spaces. At the same time its idea for couples travelling together and families.

You can even pamper yourself with the Urban Escape spa, complete with heated pool and Sauna.

7) Langar Hall

Langar Hall is an amazing looking country house in Nottingham. Its in the village of Langar, which is roughly 15 miles away from the centre. Its perfect if you’re wanting a little luxury whilst staying in the East Midlands.

There are 12 rooms, each with their own look. Some of the rooms look like their straight out of a Jane Austin Novel.

I personally like the Cartland room, there’s something about the black and white wallpaper that appeals to me.

You can even book the Agnew’s Chalet on the lawn for your own private spot, with a nice veranda to sit out on.

Or you can stay in the Pod on the opposite side of the lawn, which was recently extended.

The grounds are beautiful, plenty of space for you to have a wander around. Staff at Langar Hall are very friendly and welcoming.

A highlight of this hotel is the food, the lamb is fantastic. It was so nice to just sit in the parlour in the evening, enjoying a nice local Gin and Tonic.

8) Park Plaza Nottingham City Centre

I’ve stayed at the Park Plaza a couple of times now and I have to say both times it was great.

One of the times we stayed in the suite and there was so much space, with some city views.

The Park Plaza Nottingham is on Maid Marian Way, so in the centre and close to a few restaurants, bars and only round the corner to the old market square.

Its only up the road from Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem, a pub that is full of history and a must visit.

Big hotels can often lose the welcoming feeling, but not with this hotel.

If you’re looking for a base to explore the city of Nottingham, the Park Plaza ticks that box.

One of the things I love about this hotel is the Chino Latino restaurant attached to the hotel. Its nice having Pan-Asian food, instead of the usual hotel food.

What’s also unusual is the hotel has a 24 hour bar. This is perfect for when you come back from a night out in Nottingham, having one more night cap before going back to the room. I’ll be honest, I do like finishing a night out with a whiskey.

The Mercure Nottingham City Centre hotel is perfect if you want to be in the heart of the city. There is a Mercure hotel in Sherwood, so make sure you book the right one as that one is much further out of the centre of Nottingham.

Its located in between Lace Market area and Hockley. This is one of the best parts of the centre for a night out. There are plenty of unique bars, cafes and restaurants.

The rooms are surprisingly spacious, plenty of natural light and a bed that is so comfy.

Unlike some hotels, the bathroom is a decent size.

The staff were genuinely friendly, not just doing the usual “have a nice stay” routine. They actually seemed to care, which you don’t always get.

This is a four star hotel and if you want to splash out a little more then you can enjoy a themed suite. They provide a nice breakfast with a good variety, which is not always the case in many city hotels.

Heritage Mews used to be a school house but has been converted into a boutique hotel. It mixes industrial charm with comfort.

It has 12 rooms and feels more homely than a hotel.

The location is perfect as its close to some great bars, including unique ones such as Pitch & Piano and Penny Lane. It’s also close to some excellent restaurants like Iberico World Tapas and Piccolinos.

Your also close to attractions such as the city of caves, national justice museum and the Nottingham contemporary.

It has a welcoming feeling thanks to the rustic finishes and warm touches. There’s character everywhere but its not forced.

The aparthotel setup which is self service really works well.
