LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel Review

We’ve been to Legoland 5 times in the last 4 years and stayed in two of the three hotels, so we know it pretty well. 

In February this year we stayed in the Legoland Windsor Resort hotel, there was a couple of issues.  

Just imagine having a blocked toilet and having to move rooms at 11PM with a very tired 9 year old. 

I’ll go into more detail on that in a minute. The issue we had doesn’t actually matter. 

It’s how the hotel dealt with it.

That is the most useful thing for you to know, before you book the Legoland hotel.

What Is the LEGOLAND Hotel Windsor?

The Legoland Resort Hotel opened in 2012 for people to stay over whilst visiting the park. It is now one of three hotels, the other two being the Castle Hotel and the Woodland Village Lodges. 

Location wise, you cannot beat it. 

You’re literally steps away from the Legoland Theme Park, with onsite restaurants, bars, entertainment, Lego playroom and even a LEGO themed swimming pool.

Even though the hotel is older than the other hotels, its still very clean and well maintained. 

The only thing I will say is that the theming is not the same level as the Castle Hotel. You can tell that one is a newer hotel. 

Both are great, they’re just different when it comes to the levels of immersion. 

Arrival and Check-In: What to Expect

A real positive about Legoland Windsor Hotel is how easy and smooth check-in is. Which is surprising with the amount of people that stay there.

Before you go you’ll get an email to book online, you then simply go to one of the many kiosks and collect your room key cards.

There’s always plenty of staff around, no matter the time to help if you need it. 

Just note when you do check in, it will ask for a £5 deposit but you’ll get this refunded when you leave. 

The reception starts your LEGO trip in a great way. 

Lego models flying around the centre, a massive wall of minifigures and a little building station. Perfect for letting them build whilst you check in. 

Our son loves spending time looking through the minifigures to spot his favourite. 

On this floor you’ll also be able to find the swimming pool and the LEGO playroom. 

The only annoying thing is the second you get into reception there’s a little LEGO shop. Before we even checked-in our son was asking for some LEGO, luckily we got out of it by reminding him there’s a bigger shop on the park.

NOTE: One thing you want to know before you arrive. As a hotel guest you dont enter the LEGOLAND park through the main gate. The hotel has a separate entrance. 

If it’s your first visit, walking through the main gate is an amazing experience. So you might miss out on that, unless you visit the park and then stay over that evening.

What’s The Hotel Rooms Like?

There are 4 floors, each floor has a different theme;

• Pirates
• LEGO Friends
• Adventure
• Kingdom

I’ve seen the adventure rooms and we stayed in a Kingdom room, both looked great. 

If your kids are fans of a certain theme, you want to make sure you select that when you book. 

When it comes to the Kingdom room, they’re good but like I said not as detailed as the Castle Hotel. The Castle Hotel is more expensive, so if you have the budget and your kids love knights and wizards I would recommend that one instead. 

If you dont want to spend the extra, they’ll still love this hotel. 

Inside every room is a small selection of LEGO for the kids to play with, ideal for when your trying to unpack.

There’s then a nice little puzzle, where your kids have to follow clues to get access to the safe. Inside is a lanyard, pop badge and a little LEGO gift. 

On our last visit the LEGO gift was missing but reception soon sent it up to us. 

A great thing about the rooms is the size. Split in two bedrooms with the bathroom in the middle. Nice sized double bed in one end of the room and in the kids section is a bunk bed.

As soon as we get into the room, our son is climbing straight up to the top bunk.

When Things Went Wrong and Why It Matters

Like I said, we’ve stayed 5 times now. 4 of those times we stayed at the Castle Hotel, this was the first time we stayed at the Legoland Resort Hotel. 

It was good but we did have a bit of an issue that could have ruined the trip. 

So, what happened on our stay?

We arrived, dropped the bags, went out for dinner, and spent some time at the bar watching the entertainment.

It wasn’t until we got back to the room late that evening that we discovered the toilet was blocked.  

At 11pm. Our nine-year-old needed sleep and the room was unusable.

We went to reception. They sorted us a replacement room, not instantly, but quickly enough, and nobody made us feel like we were the problem. We packed up and moved along the corridor.

Disruptive and frustrating, especially as we’d come with friends and asked to be placed next to them. 

But LEGOLAND handled it well.

They refunded a portion of that night’s stay and gave us a couple of queue jump passes for the second day. Those passes made a real difference. We used them on two of the bigger rides first thing, and after the night we’d had, skipping the queues genuinely shifted how the day felt.

The lesson here isn’t the problem. Things go wrong in any hotel. The lesson is that LEGOLAND will deal with it when they do.

That’s more reassuring than reading a review where everything went perfectly.

Food and Drink: Bricks Restaurant and the Skyline Bar

The main dining option for hotel guests is Bricks restaurant, a self-service buffet covering breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is included in your stay: hot options, cereal, pastries, juice, a solid spread that sets you up for the park.

We only had breakfast, we ended up just getting Deliveroo in the evenings. 

Although we’ve eaten dinner at Bricks in the past.

Dinner at Bricks restaurant is an extra cost, Its pretty decent value but obviously theme park prices. 

The Skyline Bar is where you’ll want to wind down in the evenings. It sits right alongside the evening entertainment area, so you can watch kids and families being entertained from your seat while you relax.

Pool, Playroom, and the Pirate Splash Area

One of the things that makes staying onsite feel genuinely different is access to LEGO-specific play areas within the hotel itself.

The LEGO playroom is a dedicated space where kids can build freely, a proper LEGO builder’s paradise.

Different sections which allows kids (and adults) to build themed LEGO such as Kingdom, City and even LEGO friends. 

The swimming pool is a good size for a family. There are changing facilities nearby, and the pool is a proper attraction in its own right rather than an afterthought.

After a jam-packed day at the LEGOLAND park, coming back to the pool is a genuinely great way to wind down.

The combination of the pool, and the playroom means there’s a genuine case for spending time at the hotel rather than being in the LEGOLAND park from opening until close. 

Early Access to Legoland

One of the best reasons to stay onsite is early access to LEGOLAND. Hotel guests can enter certain areas of the LEGOLAND theme park at 9:30am, around 30 minutes before general admission opens.

This isn’t a perk that sounds better than it is.

The rides in that window include Flight of the Sky Lion and Deep Sea Adventure, two of the most popular attractions in the LEGOLAND park.

On a busy day, the Sky Lion can build a 45-minute queue before 11am. We were on it before the crowds arrived.

After that, the pressure comes off. We usually follow up with the Dragon or Minifigure Speedway while queues are still short, then spend the middle of the day on things like Miniland and the driving school. 

Getting two or three big rides done early frees up the rest of the day completely.

That’s a big deal when park tickets have cost what they’ve cost.

It does also mean that you can enjoy them a couple of times, I think we did flight of the sky Lion 3 times in one day.

Is It Worth the Money?

The headline price is where most people stop reading. Let’s break it down properly.

In peak summer, a family stay at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort starts at around £454 for two adults and one child.

That includes breakfast and park tickets for the whole family.

Park tickets bought in advance are around £32 per person, so £96 of that £454 is already accounted for before you factor in accommodation costs and breakfast.

If you stayed offsite, you’d typically spend £150 to £250 on a room and still need full-price LEGOLAND tickets. The gap is smaller than it looks.

Resort Hotel vs Legoland Castle Hotel: Which Should You Book?

I’ve stayed at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel three times and the Resort Hotel once, so this is a genuine comparison rather than speculation.

My honest verdict: the Castle Hotel is the better overall experience. The theming is more immersive throughout, the rooms feel fresher and the atmosphere is slightly more premium.

If you’re visiting for the first time and choosing between the two, the Castle Hotel is my recommendation.

That said, the Resort Hotel has real advantages:

• Closest to the Skyline Bar, Bricks restaurant, and the evening entertainment programme
• Direct access to the swimming pool, LEGO playroom, and Pirate Splash
• Character meet and greets happen at this hotel
• If your kids love LEGO Pirates, LEGO Friends, or NINJAGO rather than castles and knights, the Resort’s themed floors are the right choice

Don’t assume the Castle Hotel is automatically the better option. If your child would be more excited about a pirate-themed room than a castle, book the Resort.

Think about what your kids actually care about, and let that guide the decision.

The Honest Verdict 

Is the LEGOLAND Resort Hotel worth it?

For us: yes. Genuinely.

Waking up surrounded by LEGO and walking straight into LEGOLAND is a combination that’s hard to replicate from off-site.

Early access to LEGOLAND is a real and tangible benefit, not marketing fluff. Breakfast is included. The pool, the play area, the Pirate Splash, the LEGO playroom, there’s more on offer here than just a bed near the park.

And as our experience showed, when things go wrong, LEGOLAND will deal with it.
